The latest hair trend from Paris

We’re seeing beachy hair and bouncy curls in the salon right now, and we think we’ve found the perfect colour service to complement them.

Say a big hello to Ecaille, summer’s latest hair colour trend.

‘Ecaille’ (tortoiseshell in French) is a bespoke colour service for tresses using a palette of slightly darker, richer tones – like caramel and gold – than its near-relation Ombré.

A growing number of our clients are walking out of the salon with this sophisticated natural sun kissed look woven with deeper tones. Stunning.

The look, which started life amongst Parisian fashionistas is a more grown-up version of the Ombré we know and love.  It’s catching on fast this side of the Channel, and with celebs who love its classy flattering hues.

Ecaille has arrived in Brentwood

French words and names are always difficult to pronounce (perhaps why we Essex folk say ‘Loubs’ instead of Christian Louboutin). You can refer to it as the “tortoiseshell technique”, although it’s sufficiently fashion-forward that your hairdresser may not be familiar with it yet.

Ecaille? Tortoiseshell? So what exactly do you ask your hairdresser for to get this sumptuous tone-on-tone effect?

I suggest you ask your colourist for caramel, honey and golden tones, deeper at the roots and lighter at the ends – perhaps applied as a Balayage/Ombré.

I like to use the colour to shape my client’s face too, so maybe ask for the colour to start gradually going into the darker root just below your check bone.

Happy colouring and enjoy the tortoiseshell summer!
